| Cyberport Signs MoU with Baidu and Intelligence Bay |
In the quest to harness AI for increased productivity, competitiveness, and prospects, Cyberport has formed a strategic alliance with Beijing Baidu Netcom Science Technology Co., Ltd. (Baidu) and Intelligence Bay Technology Limited to drive AI development in Hong Kong.
The companies signed a memorandum of understanding, which will see Baidu establish an AI Industry Empowerment Center at Cyberport. The facility will be a platform for the three parties to collaborate on nurturing AI talent, catalysing AI industry development and R&D, facilitating AI adoption, encouraging scientific innovation, and enriching Hong Kong’s AI ecosystem. Baidu and Intelligence Bay have also joined the Cyberport Technology Network, offering AI consulting and support to start-ups in the Cyberport community to bolster their innovations.
In addition, Baidu plans to contribute products and technologies to support Cyberport’s AI supercomputing centre and AI ecosystem development. Cyberport will also work closely with Baidu and Intelligence Bay on talent development, including offering training venues, organising AI-related staff training activities, and establishing an AI exhibition zone as well as interactive showcase for AI developers.
Professor Sun Dong, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, believes the centre will lower the barriers to AI adoption and promote AI development. The new initiative will also consolidate Hong Kong’s AI foundations and support the growth of a thriving local AI ecosystem. Furthermore, over the next three years, several hundred million Hong Kong dollars will be invested to create more than 100 AI-related jobs, and nurture 10,000+ AI developers.
Simon Chan, Chairman of Cyberport, underscored the tangible benefits and economic value the centre will offer: “With the combined strengths and resources of the three parties in AI, we’re confident this collaboration will strengthen AI industry development in Hong Kong, propelling the city to become a distinguished international I&T centre.” |
